The Museum strives to accommodate students’ needs to the greatest extent possible. Each guided gallery visit is available to all students and can be adapted to meet the needs of each class. Once your reservation is confirmed, the Museum educator assigned to your group will contact you to discuss teaching strategies and activities that will best match the needs of your students. Guided gallery visits for students with special needs begin at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and are sixty- to ninety-minutes long. The maximum class size for a school group with special needs is fifteen students. A chaperone is recommended for every five students in the group.
The entrance to the Museum is wheelchair accessible, and wheelchairs and stools are available at the coat check for use in the galleries. Wheelchair-accessible rest rooms are located on the first and third floors. Sign Language interpretation is available to school groups free of charge with advance notification. Assistive listening devices are available for use in the galleries and auditorium, with advance notification.
The Education Touch Collection is comprised of an assortment of art objects including African masks, European sculptures, and South American textiles and weaving tools. When requested in advance, this tactile experience can be incorporated into relevant guided gallery visits.
