Adults: Studio Art Program

The Studio Art Program—formerly known as the Gallery/Studio Program—offers fun and challenging art-making classes for ages 6 to 96. Be inspired by professional teaching artists, discuss artworks in our exhibitions and collections, develop skills and techniques, and create your own art using new and traditional materials. Each semester ends with a student exhibition in our Education Gallery!

All levels of experience are welcome.

See our adult programs below. We also offer classes for teens and kids. Questions? Email us at studio.art@brooklynmuseum.org.

Painting: America Redux
Saturdays, 10:30 am–12:30 pm
Saturdays, 1:30–3:30 pm

Trace the evolution of American painting from colonial portraiture to contemporary icons. See works in our refreshed American Art galleries and explore stories told by Black and Indigenous artists about cultural identity. Each week offers an opportunity to try out a new technique or material, discuss an artwork with your peers, and develop your own creative expression. The class will culminate in a final project: your reflection on identity, belonging, or other ideas inspired by the Museum’s collection.

Printmaking: Print Power
Sundays, 1:30–3:30 pm

Learn the basics of linocut through drawing, carving, and printing. Visit our exhibition Elizabeth Catlett: A Black Revolutionary Artist and All That It Implies and see how mass-produced art has the power to influence social movements. Experiment with inking, etching, and pressing, and develop your unique style. End the semester by making copies of your art to distribute your creative expression far and wide.

Photography: A Portrait of Brooklyn
Sundays, 1:30–3:30 pm

Snap, crop, and print as you learn to operate a DSLR camera. Let the Museum be your muse as you photograph architecture, landscapes, and environments. Then, explore portrait photography techniques in our studios. Visit The Brooklyn Artists Exhibition and see what inspires other Brooklyn-based artists. End the semester with a portfolio of works that depict the people and places close to your heart.

On-site parking is available in the lot behind the Museum, off Washington Avenue. After the free 15-minute drop-off period, the hourly rate applies.
